The Kenyan government and the social media platform TikTok have agreed to collaborate to assess and control the flow of information in the country.
The agreement was made during a virtual conference on Thursday morning between President William Ruto and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, who agreed to establish a Kenyan office to coordinate their operations across the continent.
President Ruto stated during the meeting that he would verify that content on the short-form video hosting service TikTok adheres to agreed-upon rules.
The site's CEO stated his intention to ensure that content is monitored to satisfy community standards, which means that unsuitable or offensive content would be deleted from the network.

The inappropriate content uploaded on the platform has sparked various complaints in the National Assembly and among Kenyans.
TikTok's CEO also promised to hire additional Kenyans to work on the platform.
The meeting comes only hours after President Ruto pledged to Kenyans that he will seek moderation of information on the site and revenue to help those who use it constructively.
"I know we've heard about the difficulties in that area. And, just as we have content moderation on platforms like YouTube and Twitter, we will have the similar talk with the global CEO of TikTok tomorrow morning," Ruto said on Wednesday at Nakuru State Lodge.
