A man of Kenyan descent, accused of murdering 22 elderly women in the United States, has been killed in prison by his cellmate.

Billy Chemirmir, 50, was reportedly murdered on Tuesday morning by his cellmate, who is serving a murder term. Chemirmir was found dead in his cell when officials went to check in on him.

According to the Associated Press, the spokeswoman couldn't reveal the cellmate's identity or how Chemirmir was slain. He moved to Texas in the 1990s after marrying an American citizen and is originally from Eldama Ravine, Kenya.

He was charged with capital murder in the deaths of 14 people, and civil cases accused him of killing another eight. he would pose as a maintenance worker to access homes before smothering his victims with pillows.

Detectives apprehended him while attempting to dispose of a gold chain he had taken from a residence after suffocating its elderly owner with a pillow.

Homicide detectives responding to a tip discovered the 91-year-old woman dead in bed. A pillow with her lipstick was nearby.

Many of the victims had been confirmed as having died of natural causes, but after the arrest, authorities investigated hundreds of fatalities for possible links to the Kenyan.
