Two people have died, while eight others are hospitalized and in critical condition After eating Anthrax-infected meat in the Endonyo Rasha district of Narok South.

Nchoko reported that the eight additional victims brought to Ngosuani Health Centre had been treated and released.

To avoid such accidents, he cautioned the public to refrain from consuming meat that has not been properly examined and cooked.

"Do not eat meat from dead animals that have not been properly inspected." To avoid infecting other animals or people remains of cattle should be buried in deep graves." he said

According to him, anthrax appears in three ways: respiratory, intestinal, or as a sore with a black spot in the center.

The veterinary expert discovered that the respiratory type is more dangerous to people because it causes breathing difficulties, while the digestive form causes diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.

"The disease is treatable if patients are rushed to the hospital for treatment as soon as the symptoms appear," he said.

He stated that measures are being taken to vaccinate every livestock in the area against the disease and cautioned villagers not to touch or eat any dead livestock.

The presence of hundreds of wild animals that graze freely in the company of livestock, as the area borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve, could have caused the sickness.
