The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has vowed to block the Teachers Service Commission Act of 2012 Amendment Bill.

Collins Oyuu, the secretary general of KNUT, reports that they have found out that TSC wants to propose some changes that will only hurt educators.

He said that they have already spoken with members of parliament to ensure that lawmakers reject the bill when it comes up for discussion in the National Assembly.


Speaking in the Rarieda sub-county on Tuesday, Oyuu referred to certain teacher disciplinary regulations' amendments as detrimental provisions.

The KNUT Secretary General said that the TSC cannot handle matters about teacher compensation on its own and promised to ensure the Bill is never implemented.

Additionally, he criticized the country's recent teacher promotions, pointing out that TSC had duped Kenyans by refusing to publicly release the entire list of those teachers.

According to Oyuu, some of the teachers listed in the promotions have TSC numbers corresponding to their retirement from the teaching profession.


The union president said that many teachers have been passed over for promotions despite holding the same positions for a long time and going through multiple fruitless interviews.
