President Willliam Ruto on Friday announced that about 20,000 Kenyans are set to be recruited at the Public Service for internship from 2024.

According to Ruto, the interns will be recruited to the programme to help to bridge the skills gap between graduates and employers, making them more employable.

Ruto was speaking during the launch of the Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP) aimed at providing practical skills to graduates seeking employment.

"Beginning next year, we are going to recruit 20,000 young people to serve in various sectors of our economy," he said.

Further, Ruto has also called upon the private sector to partner with the Government in ensuring that more young people benefit from the programme as part of efforts to uplift their lives.

This year, 3,902 interns have benefitted from the programme.

Additionally, he commended the commission for ensuring that the interns recruited reflected the face of Kenya.

"It's impressive that the PSC has distributed the available slots to all the 290 constituencies, ensuring that persons living with disabilities and all genders are adequately represented," he stated.

During the event, the President also commissioned the 2021/2022 report on the Status of Compliance with the Values and Principles in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution, acknowledging the Public Service Emerging Leaders Fellowship Programme (PSELFP).
