A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Moringa School and the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) to support the development and implementation of the Jitume Skills Program in Kenya.

Thanks to the partnerships, the youngsters now have access to digital skills training through the Moringa School platforms.

The signed MoU, which was witnessed by Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, will focus on the technology transfer between the two institutions and jointly expend the effort in promoting local content and customizing technologies worldwide to fit the local context.

Speaking at the Connected Summit 2023 in Kwale, where the signing was done, PS Eng. Tanui lauded the two organizations for driving digital skills development in the country to benefit the digital economy.

He said: "We appreciate this initiative by Konza and Moringa School that will ensure that programs available at Moringa School are accessible to Jitume beneficiaries. This will enable young Kenyans to get quality training and access to global opportunities."

The PS noted that the youth will be able to learn and access digital skills which shall propel them to access global online jobs. The five-year MoU will see Moringa connecting participants of Jitume who further enroll in Moringa programs to local and international employers.

The Jitume Skills Program is a government project that aims to speed up Kenyans' adoption of the digital economy by allowing them to get through the current barriers related to technology, education, and employment.

In collaboration with Kenyan private sector businesses, the program offers job centres (Jitume Digital Empowerment Centers), learning centres (Jitume-Class), and job linkages. In the next three to five years, the program aims to enable 1 million young Kenyans to participate in employment with digital capabilities.

According to John Paul Okwiri, Ag. CEO of Konza, the Agreement will help the Jitume Program, which is now being implemented all across the nation.

"We are very grateful and happy to get this kind of support from Moringa School. We have been working with TVETs institutions, but this signing today will enable us roll it out to the rest of the country through the institution," he said.

The MoU, according to Snehar Shah, CEO of Moringa Schools, builds on their accomplishments as a training organization and supports the establishment of digital jobs in Kenya.

"Today is a milestone day for Moringa School. We have achieved a lot in creating digital talent and this engagement will scale up these achievements going ahead," he added.

The Moringa School is a multi-disciplinary learning accelerator dedicated to bridging the skills gap in Africa's labor markets by providing high-potential job seekers with transformative tech-based education and, after they graduate, connecting them with national and international employers looking for high-caliber tech talent.

Konza Technopolis Development Authority is the project's implementing body. It is a flagship project for Vision 2030 that aims to make Konza Technopolis a smart city of the highest international standards in order to position Kenya as a preferred destination for science, technology, and innovation (ST&I).

The city has already started to have an impact on the country through programs like Jitume, and Phase One is expected to generate at least 17,000 direct jobs.
