Tiwatope Omolara Savage, better known by her stage as Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian singer, revealed on Tuesday that she will take a long sabbatical from music.
The singer said in a statement that she will be forced to postpone any appearances at which she was scheduled to perform or be the headliner.
Tiwa claimed that physicians advised her to rest her voice for a few months after receiving a virus diagnosis.
She did not, however, specify how long she would be out of the music industry.

"To my dear Savage Soldiers, I've been fighting off a virus for the past few weeks and was today firmly instructed to be on strict vocal rest for the next few months," Tiwa said.
"I will unfortunately have to postpone all performances including my first-ever headline arena show in London."
The singer expressed her regret to her followers and her shock at the turn of events.
She said that she should do so to preserve her voice and that she would return to the stage as soon as she fully recovered.
"I'm heartbroken and devastated but I have to do this to save what's left of my voice.
"I'm so sorry. I love you all and promise to be back performing once I'm fully healed," the singer added.
Because of her skill with words, Tiwa Savage is adored by many people in Africa and outside it.
Alongside legends like Congolese singer Fally Ipupa and Kenya's own Nyashinski, she performed an event called Walker Town at Nairobi's Uhuru Gardens last month.
It was one of her last concerts before announcing that she would be taking a sabbatical from music.
