Bronny James has revealed that his decision to wear No. 9 in the NBA is a tribute to the late musician Juice WRLD. During his first media appearance as a Los Angeles Laker on Tuesday, LeBron's eldest son explained the significance behind his choice.
"Juice has been a huge influence on me, helping me stay calm in tough situations," the 19-year-old said. "So, wearing No. 9 is my way of honoring him, especially since he passed away. It's very important to me."

Speculation about Bronny's number choice arose when the Lakers announced it last week, particularly because Bronny has a 999 tattoo behind his ear, which Juice WRLD also had. Juice explained that 999 symbolized turning negative situations into positive ones, an inversion of the "mark of the beast."
Juice WRLD was a prominent young artist who tragically died of an accidental overdose at 21 in December 2019, a loss that deeply affected the music industry.
Bronny also addressed the pressure of being the son of one of basketball's greatest players, saying he's accustomed to it and will continue to handle it as he has throughout his career.
Lakers coach JJ Redick dismissed any doubts about Bronny's legitimacy as the 55th overall draft pick, emphasizing that the young athlete fully earned his place.
