The vibrant and joyful Kenyan artist Mejja strained to give his all during his performance at the Shoke Shoke festival.

Arya Starr was the headlining performance at the festival, which took place on March 4 at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC), and other Kenyan performers included Khaligraph Jones, Boutrous, The OnlyRosa, and Mejja himself.

Mejja needed help performing at the Shoke Shoke festival despite his efforts to return to music and create new music.

Khaligraph Jones made light of the fact that Mejja arrived on stage after him by joking that he had come earlier to invite him following "his condition."

His voice was low, and he lacked his normal fire, so the hype emcees had to support him extensively with playback and crowd chants throughout his performance.

Mejja had taken a vacation from music owing to throat issues, and this was his first concert in two months. He had explained his ailment and how his doctor had urged him to take a vacation from singing to Willy M Tuva of Mseto East Africa.

Mejja had to postpone a performance in Australia in 2022 because he was losing his voice, which he ascribed to touring regularly without having access to the proper treatment. Before seeing specks of blood after clearing his throat, which made him take his health seriously, he disregarded the symptoms.
