The west african nation of Burkina Faso has imposed a curfew in the Northern part and some parts of the Centre East region to aid in the fight against Islamic terrorists.
Thousands of civilians, police officers, and soldiers have been killed in burkina faso's long-running insurgency with Islamic jihadis. these frequent attacks have forced over two million people to flee their homes into neighbouring countries.
"In the framework of the fight against terrorism, a curfew is established from 22:00 to 05:00 across all the regional territory from Friday March 3 to Friday March 31," said a note from the secretary general of the governorate for the North, Kouilga Albert Zongo.
The imposed curfew bans residents from moving at night and restricts all four-wheeled vehicles' movements. The news to impose the curfew comes when Jihadist attacks have increased this year, killing dozens of civilians and security personnel each week. Over 60 military officers were killed in separate attacks in an ambush in the northern region in the past few weeks.
The attack has had one of the highest documented death tolls since the region became a terrorist hotspot. The event took place just two days before France declared the end of its military operations in the West African country, where 400 French special forces were stationed in 2015 to help fight an insurgency that had spread from neighbouring Mali.
