Genge Music Has Been Added To New Category For The 2024 Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards, the most prestigious honours given out by the music business, now include genge music among its distinguished benefits.

The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony is slated to take place in February 2025.

The Recording Academy's commitment to celebrating a variety of musical genres will be evident in the 2024 Grammy Awards, which will feature not one but three new categories.

Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording categories will also debunk alongside Genge music.

The newly created category, Best African Music Performance, will be among various genres, such as Highlife Ghanaian drill, Afrobeat, bongo flava, Genge, afro-fusion, Afro-pop, alte, amapiano, and Afro-house.

The Academy's dedication to recognizing the creative achievements of African music and honouring its rich cultural heritage is reflected in this expansion.

The 2024 Grammy Awards will now include 102 categories, a significant increase from the previous year, with the addition of these new categories.

Except for special award categories like the Grammy Global Impact Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award, Technical Grammy Award, Grammy Legend Award, Grammy Hall of Fame Award, The MusiCares Person of the Year Award, and Best Song for Social Change, the ceremony featured a staggering 91 categories in 2023.


The Recording Academy's CEO, Harvey Mason Jr., expressed his enthusiasm for the revisions in a statement and reaffirmed the Academy's dedication to being aware of comments from the music community and adapting to the always-changing musical scene.

Mason stated that the Recording Academy is pleased to announce these most recent Category modifications. These adjustments reflect our dedication to authentically representing a wide variety of pertinent musical genres, staying in step with the constantly changing musical scene, and actively listening to and acting upon comments from our music community.


By creating these three additional categories, we may recognize and value a broader range of artists.

A significant step forward for the genre and its musicians, including Genge's music in the Grammy Awards, gives them a platform to be recognized globally for their ability and accomplishments.
