Kenya Actors Guild has changed their rate cards, likely due to recent happenings in Hollywood.
Waza News obtained a document stating that an experienced leading actor in a local TV series (with at least 13 episodes) is entitled to Sh30,000 per episode. In contrast, a junior leading actor is only entitled to Sh25,000.
The episode cost for a seasoned supporting actor is Sh20,000, while the fee for a junior supporting actor is Sh15,500. Background actors on the list received Sh3,000 in pay, while extras received Sh1,500.
However, the cost increases to $2,500 (Sh355,125) for the primary lead actor in an international series and $2,000 (Sh284,100) for the top supporting actor.

The primary actor rate for local films has been increased to Sh15,000 per day from Sh5,000, and the principal supporting actor pay has risen to Sh12,000 per day from Sh3,500.
The increased pay for supporting and principal junior actors are Sh6,000 and Sh9,000, respectively, up from Sh5,500 and Sh3,5000.
This recent development in the Kenyan acting industry comes as more than 160,000 Hollywood actors have stopped working to protest their declining pay through organizations like the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). The performers assert that it is now virtually impossible for most to make a living.
The SAG claims that significant streaming companies like Apple, Amazon, Netflix, NBC Universal, Sony, Paramount, and CBS News have refused to discuss raising performer pay and splitting streaming revenue.
