The multi-talented Benson Mutua, better known by his stage name Bensoul, has written well over 500 songs. For evidence of his poetic brilliance, check out his 2023 album Lion of Sudah. 

In the album's tune Navutishwa, where he recounts failed relationships, he displays his sensitivity. 

In an interview, Bensoul discussed his work and the recognition he has received.

It's interesting to note that he didn't study music. He had gone to college to study civil engineering, but he had little interest in the subject. 

When questioned about the greatest sacrifice he has ever made, he revealed this to us. Bensoul claims that leaving his studies in civil engineering to pursue music full-time was the biggest career sacrifice he has ever made. 

"I quit school, I was studying civil engineering and I said I wanna do music like full time and by then I wasn't a superstar in any way. So nilikuwa najiaminia, and that was a risk. But I am glad that I did it." 

What were his parent's opinion about dropping such a good career goal? 

"For sure she was a bit afraid about it but she still supported, thanks to my mum maze, she supported me in so many ways." 

He was motivated to get started by his mother's encouragement. She did not criticize me in any manner, as some parents seem to do.
