Two ladies detained over the weekend in Kawangware while attempting to take a one-year-old infant will be charged with human trafficking today.

However, detectives are anticipated to submit a miscellaneous application in which they would want to hold the pair for an additional week while their inquiries are ongoing.

The two were detained on Saturday after a concerned citizen noticed one of his neighbor's children with one of them; when he questioned her, she gave a suspicious look, and neither of them could adequately explain how they had come into possession of the child.

He immediately alerted the other passengers, and they assisted in making the arrests.

When they arrived at the police station, they discovered they were selling the youngster to a waiting customer in the Nairobi Central Business District.

Kibera's senior principal magistrate, Electina Rihani, will hear their case.

A Nairobi court recently sentenced two former employees of the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital to prison after finding them guilty of child trafficking and theft.

In other stories, Jonathan Okoth Opande, a previous candidate for the Nyakach MP seat, was detained last week and will be charged today with a Sh100 million fake gold scam.

He is accused of defrauding Thai nationals in a phony gold scam of more than Sh100 million.

At his office in Lavington, Nairobi, detectives discovered bogus gold bars, pellets, and rudimentary smelting equipment on Friday.

He was arrested on Friday following complaints from Kitvisit Songsri and Nutsaphol Songsri, both Thai Nationals.

Opande is anticipated to appear before Susan Shitubi, the senior chief magistrate in Milimani.
