A family from Shirakalu village in Kakamega County is once again calling for justice, years after their 10-year-old daughter was allegedly defiled and murdered by two men in 2022.
The young girl was laid to rest three years ago after the family’s initial efforts to obtain justice proved unsuccessful. However, the case has now been revived as investigators intensify efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
On Thursday, a joint team comprising the Director of Homicide, forensic experts from Nairobi, detectives, and a government pathologist exhumed the girl's remains to conduct a fresh post-mortem. DNA samples collected during the procedure are expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation.
Speaking at the exhumation site, Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mahmoud confirmed that the DNA analysis will help identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the heinous crime.
The grieving family remains hopeful that the new forensic evidence will finally lead to justice for their daughter, who suffered unspeakable violence at the hands of her attackers.
