New details emerging from the ongoing murder trial of rally driver Maxine Wahome have exposed a chilling exchange of WhatsApp messages between her and the late Assad Khan—just hours before the events that led to his death.

In court last week, forensic officers presented thousands of digital records extracted from Maxine’s mobile phone, including desperate messages from Assad. Among them was a haunting final plea, questioning why she wasn't answering his calls.

These messages form part of over 76,000 pages of previously undisclosed digital evidence, including call logs, missed calls, videos, photos, and texts.

According to the prosecution, the digital trail places Maxine at the couple’s Kileleshwa residence in the early hours of December 12, 2022—just moments before Assad suffered a deep leg wound. He allegedly sustained the injury after kicking a glass door during a domestic altercation, resulting in severe bleeding.

Though rushed to two hospitals, Assad died days later from a bacterial blood infection caused by the injury.

The recovered data further shows numerous unanswered calls from Assad to Maxine and a series of emotional messages sent while she was reportedly out partying in Westlands. Videos found on her phone allegedly show Assad walking away from the residence, while photographs later taken captured bloodstains at the scene.

Maxine’s legal team questioned why such critical digital evidence had not been submitted earlier by the prosecution. The judge has since granted a formal request for the return of her phone.

With the trial set to continue next month, the defence maintains that the communication records could significantly alter the narrative surrounding Assad’s death.

Maxine Wahome has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and remains out on bond as the high-profile case unfolds.
