Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University students took to the streets, protesting increased insecurity in and around the university.

According to the students who barricaded Siaya-Nyadorera road, there has been an increase in criminals accessing the facility and stealing properties, including computers and church equipment.

They also express concern about student assaults.

The most recent incident occurred on Thursday night when a man was allegedly discovered stalking female students at night.

Colleagues cornered and battered the suspect.

According to the students, the suspect was transported to the watchman's stand to await transport to the police station until morning, but the man strangely vanished.

The incident infuriated the students even more, prompting them to protest, demanding that the university's management investigate the security staff accused of collaborating with the criminals.

"We'd like to know if the watchmen here have a deal with the people who attack us." We've lost a lot of things, and now individuals are attempting to rape our ladies." Emmanuel Ochieng, one of the university's student leaders, stated.

Students claim that there have been reports of several criminal activities in the region surrounding the campus, including students being attacked and robbed of their phones and laptops.

In other news, Mourners gathered in Kanthungu, Mwingi North, for the burial of an 11-year-old girl who died after being bitten by a black mamba last week.

Nancy Mukami died while being transported to Ishiara Level 4 Hospital in Embu County, 50 kilometers distant, due to a lack of anti-venom at surrounding hospitals in Mwingi North.

The family and local officials demanded that the government pay. Compensation for snake bite victims was halted in 2019 due to changes to Kenya Wildlife Service laws.

Following legislative changes, residents were encouraged to clean shrubs surrounding their homes to prevent snakes from finding safe havens nearby.
