Police in Elgeyo Marakwet have launched a manhunt for people who attacked and killed a police officer after rescuing six girls who had undergone Female Genital Mutilation.
According to authorities, unknown individuals attacked the officer who had rescued the girls after they had been maimed, pelting him with stones and blunt instruments until he died, then burned his body and fled with a G3 gun and 40 rounds of ammunition.
The villagers were angered after the police officer rescued the girls, taking them to their station in Chesoi.

Officers are determined to apprehend the culprits who are still on the loose.
This comes amid numerous documented FGM cases in the area, forcing many girls to flee their homes for fear of their safety.
