On Friday morning, suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked the Quick Response Unit (QRU) Camp of the National Police Service (NPS) in Mandera County.
More than twenty heavily armed militants approached the camp from the northwest, according to police reports, and they started attacking within 100 meters of the camp.
A police report detailing the incident states, "Officers who were alert responded swiftly and engaged them for 15 minutes but managed to repulse them."
Officers based at the camp, however, retaliated, engaging the militants in a 15-minute intense gun battle before the assailants fled.
