Following a Saturday night raid by special officers from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), more than 45 people were found smoking shisha in various locations in Nyali, Mombasa County.

At the Hide Out and Escape shisha shops, where over 50 shisha pots and ten boxes with unique shisha flavors were seized, 45 people were taken into custody.

According to NACADA CEO Anthony Amerikwa, the organization would step up similar operations around the nation to free several youths who have experimented with shisha addiction.

In December 2023, NACADA stepped up its efforts to eradicate vice from the country and escalated the crackdown.

Since the State outlawed the usage, importation, manufacturing, distribution, and advertising of tobacco products in 2017, smoking shish kabob has been prohibited in Kenya.
