Two suspects arrested in possession of 25 kilograms of contraband milk powder were on Wednesday arraigned at Milimani Law court to answer to a myriad of charges.

The detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended Dahir Ahmed Hassan and Abdifitah Ahmed Dahir were apprehended when the illegal consignment was found stashed in 408 bags.

The two are accused of having uncustomed goods, importing dairy produce without a valid license issued by the Kenya Dairy Board, and failing to pay import levy to the Kenya Dairy Board.

This occurs in the midst of an effort to stop the selling of illegal milk powder, which appears to be growing.

In Eastleigh, Nairobi, five further individuals connected to the trade of illicit milk powder were taken into custody on January 6.

After an undercover operation, 77 containers of the UK-based Aptamil breast milk product, each weighing 800 grams, and 25 kilograms of cream milk powder called Fresh Dairy product of Brookside Uganda were found wrapped in sacks.

There were rumors that some of the milk powder included fungus.

Twenty containers of Nestle Nan Optripo product from Mexico, each weighing 400 grams, were also recovered.
