Her family and friends rescued her and sent her to Rumuruti Sub-County Hospital. She was then transferred to Pope Benedict XVI Hospital in Nyahururu, where she was admitted.

Her brother, Njihia Mbugua, regretted that similar attacks had occurred.

Rumuruti Business Community Chairman Fredrick Mwangi stated that criminals had previously targeted the rancher.

He grieved that the vast Jennings Farm, located several kilometres from Rumuruti town, had been invaded by illegal grazers who had also built shanties.

Efforts to evict them from her farm have always ended in court because they claim ownership of some of the land.

Salama Ward MCA Mugambi Gatati has urged the government to move quickly and bring the accused to justice.

Security authorities in Laikipia West are looking for illegal grazers who are suspected of shooting the rancher when she was on her land in the Thome area.

Residents seek increased protection in places with frequent clashes between illegal grazers and landowners.

They also want the government to send additional National Police Reservists to regions prone to similar attacks to remove illegal grazers and people with unlicensed firearms.

Security services were kept on high alert to prevent banditry and armed clashes.
