Important witnesses testified during the opening of the murder trial for former Pangani station police officer Ahmed Rashid on Thursday at the Kibera Law Courts.

A witness, who happened to be the grandfather of one of the dead teenagers, related how he found out about his grandson's untimely death from the news on television.

Though he maintained the prosecution did not provide that evidence in court, he told the judge that when he visited the mortuary, he discovered his grandson's body had up to seven gunshot wounds, some of which had resulted in the recovery of lodged bullets.

But when defense attorney Danstan Omari pressed him to point out specifics in the video during cross-examination, he refused, saying he didn't want to watch it again.

The first witness, who was permitted to testify on camera in front of High Court Judge Diana Kavedza, expressed concern for his safety.

Rashid is charged with killing Mohammed Dhair Kheri and Jamal Mohammed, two teenagers, at Amal Plaza in Eastleigh, Nairobi, in March 2017.
