On Thursday night, a 30-year-old man from the village of Riakinia in the Ndia Constituency of Kirinyaga County killed his 56-year-old mother with a machete.
After a quarrel over coffee crops grown on a plot of land, the attacker, Murimi Maina, he allegedly turned on his mother, Jane Nyambura Maina.
Moses Koskei, the commander of Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police, confirmed the incident and told Citizen Digital that Nyambura's purported destruction of 20 coffee plants that Murimi, a butcher by trade, had grown on her land was the catalyst for the horrific murder.
Before hacking his mother to death, Murimi allegedly threatened her with dire consequences for her actions.

The police commander declared, "He killed her by chopping her body into pieces, making good on his threat."
After the attack, the accused is said to have left the area.
Since then, as the search for Murimi continues, the deceased's body has been transferred to the mortuary at Kerugoya Hospital.
