Police officers have recovered a firearm that was stolen from the Officer Commanding Vihiga Police Station (OCS) on December 21, 2023
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the OCS was attacked while on duty, and his Jericho firearm and 15 rounds of ammo were stolen.
"To get the firearm, the ruthless gang had on the said date waylaid the Chief Inspector as he parked his car in Vihiga's Majengo market, descending on him with daggers and leaving him for the dead," the DCI said.

Following an intelligence-led investigation, the DCI's operations team tracked down the suspects. An anonymous caller reported the incident after seeing a strange vehicle at the KU farm in Mwiki with three people aboard it.
Detectives approached the car and found that the same criminals had carried out multiple attacks in Nairobi.
After an intense shootout, one person was left dead.
"One member of the gang was also neutralised after daring a gunfight with the DCI Operations team," the investigators stated.
Two of his accomplices fled the scene to the neighboring retail complex. Police are pursuing the culprits who ran away.
"A Nissan Note with registration number KBZ 985T which the suspects were using was impounded alongside other exhibits," the Department of Criminal Investigation said.
The suspect's body was sent to the City Mortuary for identification.
