A woman is being sought by police in the Rarieda sub-county for allegedly abandoning her newborn child at the Ndigwa market on Monday night.
After that, the baby's body was discovered inside a carton box, still wrapped. It is reported that it was dumped as soon as it was delivered.
Victor Otunge, the assistant chief of the Naya sub-location, reported the incident to the Madiany police station, according to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo.
He said the administrator had reported that a body, wrapped and placed inside a carton box, had been discovered dumped at a roadside within the Ndigwa market. The infant appeared to be a newborn.

According to Kimaiyo, after the horrific act was committed, detectives from the Madiany Police Station went to the scene. They took the body to the mortuary of the Madiany Sub-County Hospital. There, it is awaiting an autopsy and additional identification while efforts are made to identify and apprehend the woman.
She used the occasion to advise young mothers to break the habit of leaving their newborns behind.
