A police officer has been arrested for allegedly fatally shooting a 19-year-old boy at the Kiandai retail complex in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.

Angry family members, including the deceased's aunt Sicily Wangu, and Kiandai villagers rushed to the Kianyaga police station to demand an explanation for the incident.

"We have been told Derrick was killed by police officers from this station, and we want to know why," Wangu stated.

Jane Muthoni, the deceased's grandma, sobbed hysterically upon seeing her grandson's body.
She added that she had lived with the dead since his mother died in 2008.

"Derrick Gachoki completed form four last year and I had been taking care of him. Why have they decided to take his life?" Muthoni asked.

Kirinyaga Police Commander Andrew Naibei confirmed the event, stating that a female officer from the Kianyaga police station had been arrested.

"Police officers were on patrol last night when the incident happened and right now we have launched an investigation to see the family get justice. I have informed the chairman of the security committee in the county. Please tell them to receive our condolences; it is very unfortunate," Naibei said.

According to the deceased's buddy, Alex Njeru, police officers came to the Kiandai shopping center at about 11 a.m., where they were playing pool.
