Police officers in Cheptingting, Bomet County, have launched an investigation after a 29-year-old man allegedly murdered his cousin.

Konoin sub-county police chief David Kandie said that the accused, Leonard Rono, went into his cousin's home and started hitting him with a blunt object in the head.

Rono murdered 27-year-old Mathew Korir on the spot while his wife, Beatrice Chemutai, witnessed the crime in disbelief.

The suspect is said to have had a dispute with the deceased about an undisclosed matter before deciding to kill him.

The deceased's wife raised an alert, attracting the general public's attention.

A mob attacked him until the Nyumba Kumi officer rescued him and took him to Cheptalal Health Centre for treatment.

The deceased's body has been transported to Kapkatet Mortuary Hospital, while the suspect remains in police custody.
