Four officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will be detained for four more days after allegedly breaking into a school accountant's car and stealing Ksh. 2.2 million in Nairobi's Utawala neighborhood.
The four policemen assigned to DCI Kasarani and Ruai will stay in detention while police investigate them.
Sergeant Antony Ndegwa, Corporal Daniel Lekakeny Sunkuli, Police Constables Simon Macharia Maina and Anthony Mwendwa, and civilians Young Wakhisi and Lukas Magoiga Chacha are believed to have followed Rophine International School's accountant from a bank in Utawala on June 3 before breaking into his car and taking the money.
According to DCI, the money was supposed to pay off salary arrears for casual workers at the institution.
The six suspects allegedly followed the accountant from the bank to where he parked outside the school.
The accountant allegedly entered the school with some money, but when he returned to collect the rest, he found his car had been stolen.
"A total of Sh473,000 believed to be part of the stolen amount was also recovered from the six, who were ambushed in the station's official police vehicle."
