Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a Kisumu-based High Court advocate and a court staffer for allegedly seeking a Ksh. 500,000 bribe from a plaintiff.

Advocate Clifford Gwada and clerk Zakayo Wambogo are claimed to have accepted a bribe from a litigant while purporting to work on behalf of Presiding Judge Lady Justice Aburili.

The duo allegedly claimed that the Judge sought the money to entice her to render a favourable judgement in a litigation she decided on May 17, 2024.

Lady Justice Aburili, who has now registered a statement with EACC on the subject, verified that she had information that the money had been taken by Peter Warindu and Company Advocates, where Advocate Gwada works, and given to Wambogo for onward transmission to her without her knowledge.

"She interviewed the implicated Court Assistant and the Advocate in an open court during which they admitted having received the money and divided it amongst themselves," read a statement in part.
