Residents of the Ngumba estate in the Kasarani sub-county are calling on the police to investigate and amplify security in the area after a recent burglary spree.
According to official reports, two men in their twenties were lynched by an angry mob after being caught breaking into houses on the estate.
The tragic event unfolded when the suspects, armed with a machete and a Taser, confronted a building caretaker in the Mbinda section of Ngumba.
The caretaker’s alarm raised the attention of local residents, many of whom have been victims of a spate of break-ins and thefts plaguing the area. Enraged and desperate for security, the residents apprehended the suspects and set them on fire.
"We are no longer secure here in Ngumba. Last week, these criminals ambushed a lady dropping her child to school, stealing her phone and house keys while threatening to stab her," a resident recounted.
The suspects were also found carrying numerous master keys, which were suspected to have been used to access multiple buildings and homes.
Police from Kasarani Police Station arrived later to collect the bodies, which were then transported to City Mortuary for autopsy.
The once-peaceful area has seen increased crime and house break-ins in recent months. Residents attribute the surge in crime to criminals from nearby areas such as Baba Dogo and Dandora.
This incident has left the community in fear, with residents calling for increased security measures and more police presence to restore the peace and safety that Ngumba once knew.
