A Kenyan man working at an elderly care facility in Perth, Australia, has been sentenced to two years in prison after allegedly coercing an elderly resident in his 80s, who suffers from dementia, into a sexual act.
During the court proceedings, it was disclosed that James Ng'ang'a Irungu, 30, who grew up in a strict Christian environment in Kenya, had concealed his homosexuality. The Kenyan Diaspora Media website reported this.
Irungu admitted to three counts of indecently interacting with a vulnerable individual. The victim, who was battling both dementia and Parkinson's disease, was unable to protect himself.

The court heard Irungu arrived in Australia in 2023 to pursue university studies.
Judge Sefton handed down sentences of eight, twelve, and sixteen months for the three charges. The first and third sentences were to be served consecutively for twenty-four months in prison.
Although Irungu was granted parole, the judge warned that his visa could be revoked, possibly resulting in his deportation to Kenya.
