Police in Kirinyaga County are holding a man accused of fatally stabbing his wife in a tragic domestic incident.
The suspect, identified as John Mugendi, is in custody at Kiamaciri Police Station following the death of his wife, Catherine Wanjiku.
According to Mwea West police boss Rashid Ali, the suspect had allegedly accused his wife of infidelity. Before the incident, Mugendi, a bodaboda operator from Kagio town, was seen wandering with a hammer, searching for his wife.
Eyewitnesses, including resident Obadiah Gatimu, reported that Mugendi later attacked Wanjiku with a kitchen knife, leading to her untimely death. "He mentioned his suspicions of her having an affair, and shortly afterward, the tragedy occurred," Gatimu shared.

The deceased’s mother, Wanja Mwangi, expressed her shock and devastation, revealing that her daughter, who was a mother of three, had been married to Mugendi for over 14 years. "I was horrified to find my daughter lying lifeless in a pool of blood," said Mwangi.
The suspect sustained severe injuries after being confronted by angry locals. Authorities have stated that he will receive medical treatment before facing charges in court.
The police have transported Wanjiku’s body to Kerugoya for a postmortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.
