Police officers in Kitui County are investigating the gruesome murder of Patrick Mutua Wambua, a 46-year-old man whose body was discovered submerged in a 250-litre water drum.
The incident, reported on the morning of November 24, 2024, took place in Matinyani Sub-County.
A team of investigators led by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Matinyani quickly responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim's body stuffed inside the drum, with his head visibly protruding. While no additional injuries were evident, a deep-cut wound was observed beneath his chin, raising suspicions of foul play.
Further investigations at the scene revealed a blood-stained panga in the kitchen, where the deceased reportedly slept. The weapon has been secured as evidence and is undergoing forensic analysis as part of the ongoing inquiry.
After the scene was thoroughly processed, the body was transported to Kitui County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
