Authorities in Kijabe are on the trail of three suspects who attacked a motorist late last night on a bridge along Old Kijabe Road.

The gang, reportedly armed with machetes and a pipe wrench, set up an ambush by using a log to block the road. The incident occurred shortly before 11 PM, leaving the victim vulnerable to the violent robbery.

According to police, the suspects threatened the motorist’s life, forcing him to surrender Sh70,000 in cash, a Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone, several credit cards, and his Mpesa PIN. The gang transferred Ksh.70,000 from the victim's account before fleeing the scene.

The victim managed to escape unharmed when the suspects were distracted by an approaching vehicle. He ran to the nearby Rift Valley Academy, where security personnel promptly notified the Kijabe Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

Police escorted the victim back to his car, but an extensive search of the surrounding thickets failed to locate the suspects.

Detectives from Lari sub-county have launched an investigation into the incident, urging anyone with information to come forward.
