A tragic incident unfolded in Minyere village, Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, where a 7-year-old girl lost her life after allegedly being poisoned by her father.
The young victim, Grashines Lovely Odongo, was a Grade Two pupil at Minyere Comprehensive School.
According to reports, the child had been living with her father and sibling following her parents' separation three months ago. On Tuesday morning, a relative visiting the home discovered her lifeless body covered with clothes inside the house.
Javana Abuto, the area assistant chief, stated that the girl was last seen alive on Monday evening with her father. Her younger sibling later revealed that their father had allegedly mixed petrol with an unidentified chemical, disguised it as soda, and forced the child to drink it.
Further investigations suggest that the father physically assaulted his daughter before poisoning her. A bottle containing petrol was found next to her body, and authorities confirmed she had foam coming from her mouth at the time of discovery, indicating possible poisoning.
