A High Court in Eldoret has sentenced Dorcas Ntinyari, a 25-year-old mother of two, to 35 years in prison for fatally stabbing her husband, Felix Otieno, following a domestic dispute.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Nyakundi raised concerns over the alarming rise in domestic violence cases across Kenya, calling the trend deeply troubling.
The court established that the tragic incident occurred on November 8, 2023, at Kipkaren Estate, Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County. Ntinyari, who had been experiencing ongoing conflicts with her husband, had sought refuge at her elder sister’s house after a heated argument the previous night.
The following day, Otieno, who was reportedly intoxicated, traced his wife’s whereabouts and arrived at her sister’s residence, only to find the door locked. When Ntinyari told him to wait as she bathed, he forcefully tried to break in, demanding his belongings, including a phone and a pair of sandals.
Amid the escalating tension, Ntinyari stabbed Otieno once in the chest, an injury that proved fatal. He died on the spot inside her sister’s house.
