Detectives in Kirinyaga County have arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of killing a woman and disposing of her body in a septic tank at his family home in Ngurubani town, Mwea East sub-county.

Mwea East sub-county police commander confirmed that the suspect, Brian Wambugu Mwangi, was apprehended Friday night while hiding in Mwariko Estate.

Authorities also arrested two individuals who had been harboring him. Wambugu was taken to Wang’uru Police Station for further interrogation regarding the incident.

The grim discovery was made by a housemaid while cleaning the toilets at the suspect’s residence. Initial investigations suggest the murder occurred last Thursday.

The suspect’s father, Joseph Mwangi, revealed that his son had struggled academically and often had conflicts with the family over business matters. He had attempted to get Wambugu into rehabilitation and counseling, but with little success. On the day of the incident, Wambugu had demanded a share of his father’s butchery business, which led to an argument.

During questioning, Wambugu confessed that the victim was a woman he had met at a bar. She had been abandoned by her boyfriend after a dispute and was heavily intoxicated. He took her to his house, but a fight ensued, resulting in her death. He admitted he did not know her name, only recalling a bangle labeled "Rose" on her wrist.

Authorities have launched a forensic autopsy to determine the victim’s identity and are urging the public to assist in locating her family.
