Kasipul Kabondo MP Charles Were was fatally shot near City Mortuary along Valley Road in Nairobi. The assassination took place in broad daylight, with the MP dying on the spot.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of the prime suspect. A man identified as Omar Shakur was captured on multiple CCTV cameras trailing the MP. In the footage, he is seen carrying a sling bag, which investigators believe may have contained the firearm used in the killing.

CCTV footage from Parliament reveals how Omar trailed MP Charles Were all the way to Wabera Street, where the MP’s bodyguard had stopped to deposit money at an M-Pesa outlet. Omar was spotted at the scene, keeping a watchful eye on the MP’s vehicle from a distance.

After the stop at Wabera Street, Omar mounted a sports bike and continued to follow the MP’s car. Upon reaching the City Mortuary roundabout, where the vehicle paused for traffic, Omar seized the moment—he dismounted the bike, approached the car, and shot the MP four times before fleeing the scene on the same motorcycle.

After the shooting, Omar was captured on CCTV arriving in the city center, where he switched to another vehicle that transported him out of the Nairobi CBD. Police have since arrested the suspect, and investigations are currently ongoing.
