Police officers in Busia county are looking for suspects accused of breaking into police officers' homes in Milimani Estate near the Kenya-Uganda border and stealing guns, gas cylinders and radios.
According to a police statement, Busia county Commander Bishar Muhamed walked into his house around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday to retire after a long day's work, only to wake up the next morning to find his room ransacked and in a state of disarray.
Commander Muhamed says that he woke up dizzy and noticed that his Czeska Pistol, together with 15 rounds of ammunition, were missing from his suitcase, and that is when he alerted the police, who discovered that the thieves had gained their way into the officer's house through the rear door after spraying the room with a stupefying drug.
The thieves also broke into another house and stole a gas cylinder and a radio. A K9 tracking dog was reportedly brought to the scene and picked up some scent, which led it to a feeder road leading to Uganda, but it vanished before crossing the border. A police operation has been initiated to apprehend the fugitives and recover the gun.
