The man who was found guilty of planning to blow up the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) will spend 20 years of his life in prison.

Victor Odede Bwire, also known as Abdulaziz, was convicted at the milimani law courts of being a terrorist who was gathering intel with the intent of blowing up the KICC building. senior principal magistrate Bernard Ochoi who was presiding over the case said that bwire was communicating with terrorists in Somalia and was sharing security details about the building with them.


According to the court, Bwire used three different Facebook accounts to collect intelligence and send it to Somalia and the recruitment master Mohamed Yare Abdalla, who is currently incarcerated for life at Kamiti Maximum Prison for terrorism.

After receiving intelligence about upcoming attacks on the KICC, NSSF, and Supreme Court of Kenya buildings from an FBI agent, Bwire was captured in 2019.

Bwire is the cousin of Elgiva Odede Bwire Oliacha, an al-Shabaab member who was convicted of participating in grenade attacks in Nairobi and given a life term in 2011.

In other news, a suspect has been charged with hate crimes in the shooting of two Jewish men as they left a synagogue in Los Angeles California. According to US Attorney Martin Estrada, Jaime Tran, 28, is suspected of carrying out the assaults on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

“For the past two days, our community has experienced two horrific acts,” Estrada said. “An individual motivated by anti-Semitism, hatred for people in the Jewish community, committed two tremendously horrible acts targeting individuals because of their Jewish faith.”

According to Estrada, both fatalities were dressed in black coats and head coverings, which signified their religious affiliation.
