After both sides presented their case, the jury deliberated only three hours to find the disgraced lawyer guilty on all counts.his lawyer has requested a mistrial which the preceding judge, Judge Clifton Newman, has denied saying The evidence of guilt is overwhelming.

Alex Murdaugh did not flinch or show emotions when the verdict was read. According to the prosecutors, Murdaugh committed the murders on the 7th of June 2021 when he realised that he could no longer hide the fact that he was embezzling money from the family law firm to feed his opioid addiction and that the matter was coming to light.

According to Newman. Murdaugh faces a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of life for each murder count.

"We can't bring them back, but we can bring them justice," South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said of the victims during a press conference following the verdict.

"Today's verdict proves that no one -- no one -- no matter who you are in society, is above the law," he said.

Murdaugh has repeatedly denied that he had anything to do with the murder of his wife and son. He described finding their bodies at their hunting estate's dog kennels, with Maggie shot five times with a rifle and Paul's head shredded by a shotgun blast.

The accused admitted stealing, embezzling and lying about his drug habit, which his attorneys estimated to cost $50,000 per week. But insisted that his client would never lie about killing his wife
