A postmortem analysis has revealed that Maryanne Wangari, a student at Bomet University, was strangled to death before being dumped in the river.
Dr Weldon Kirui, Medical Superintendent at Longisa Referral Hospital, oversaw the postmortem examination of the 22-year-old university student.
"The findings indicate that the student died of strangulation and there were also other findings from the genitalia where lacerations were widespread. There were no other injuries found in the body," Dr Kirui revealed

The lifeless body of a female university student was discovered floating in a river on the outskirts of Bomet on Monday morning. She was identified as Mary Ann Wangari, a 22-year-old fourth-year student at Bomet University.
The body was discovered floating in the raging waters of the Nyangores River in the Chebirir area, according to police. The Communication and Public Relations student went missing on Tuesday last week, according to Deputy Police Commandant Ali Bashir of the Bomet Central sub-county.
Bashir says that the female's body was discovered by an individual in the public who proceeded to inform the police officers. He also saw that the corpse had begun to decompose.
"Our officers and the school administration have begun recording statements from students who were last seen with the deceased as we embark on serious investigations," said Bashir.
The body of the 22-year-old university student has been sent to the mortuary at Longisa County Referral Hospital.
Bashir Ali, deputy police chief of Bomet Central, said four male students and a woman are being questioned about the incident.
"Our experts are analysing phone data in an effort to trace the deceased's last steps," Bashir added.
Dr Elizabeth Chirchir, Secretary-General of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU), has urged police to ensure appropriate protection for students living in rented apartments.
