On Saturday evening, two people thought to be police officers were slain by a mob at a market in Tharaka-Nithi County under mysterious circumstances.
The two were not wearing uniforms at the time of the incident in Igambang'ombe's Kanthanje market. Therefore, their identities have yet to be confirmed, according to Igambang'ombe Deputy County Commissioner Julius arap Too.
According to reports, the two headed to the market's M-Pesa shop, where a quarrel developed with an attendant named Murithi Njeru. Mr Njeru's distress appeal drew the attention of the mob, who subsequently beat the two to death. Mr Arap Too stated that Mr Njeru suffered head injuries likely caused by a sharp item.
Mr arap said that he could confirm that two people, allegedly police officers from Kathwana police station, were murdered by a mob at Kanthanje market. Adding that the identities of the deceased are yet to b identified.
According to Igambang'ombe Sub-County Police Commander Charles Muchiri, they could not instantly determine what happened before the two victims died at the scene of the incident.
Muchiri explained that they had launched investigations into the incident, but they could not immediately tell what happened because we discovered a deserted market with two bodies on the ground.
According to an eyewitness, who spoke to the Nation on the condition of anonymity owing to the situation's sensitivity, the two guys arrived on a motorcycle, entered the shop, and then confronted Mr Njeru.
He yelled for help, claiming he was being attacked by robbers, prompting the crowd to come to his aid. A witness claimed that The deceased, who some locals later identified as police officers, were not in uniform and only had handcuffs.
Less than a week before this incident, an officer assigned to the Mukothima police post in Tharaka North Sub-County allegedly shot and injured a bar operator at Mukothima market. The person was transferred to a hospital in Meru County, which is nearby.
