Dandora residents were taken aback when it was revealed that four individuals who pretended to work at an MCA office had duped them.
The four offenders were accused of stealing money from needy parents and guardians looking for bursaries for their children.
They claimed to have connections to help the parents obtain scholarships and asked them to pay Ksh500 each as bursary registration costs.
The suspects would only issue the bursary paperwork after the "registration fee" was paid.

The victims were promised that the government will provide them with Ksh5,000 as bursary awards.
"It is every parent's desire to provide the best education for their children, so as many as 40 parents were duped by the suspect," one victim stated.
MCA Dandora Police are undertaking inquiries, according to Dan Oria, whose name was used in the scam.
He claimed that after the scandal was revealed, his team only realized that several forms were missing from the original batch.
An insider is thought to be involved in the scheme.
Initially, the police detained two office employees who were intimately connected with the bursary program.
The staff then assisted authorities in locating the four suspects in the plan.
Oria cautioned citizens not to pay any fees in order to obtain bursary paperwork.
He urged more victims to report their offenses to police so that they may be investigated.
