A 31-year-old man died after a mine collapsed in Gwikonge village, Kuria West sub-county, Migori County.
Cleti Kimaiyo, the police commander for Kuria West sub-county, said the deceased, Daniel Wairimu Chacha, 31, was mining sand with his siblings, John Chacha and Samwel Chacha, when the mine wall collapsed, and he was buried under the rubble.
Kimaiyo stated that Daniel Wairimu, who was rescued from the rubble by the brothers and members of the public, sustained injuries and died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
He stated that the deceased's body was sent to the Kuria West sub-county hospital morgue pending autopsy and police investigations.
