The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has issued an arrest warrant for Kinangop Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Walter Obegi, who is on the run after evading EACC detectives on Tuesday over bribery allegations.
EACC has asked the Kinangop North Sub-County Police Commander to seek for and catch the fugitive in a letter dated August 9 and copied to the Central Regional Police Commander and Nyandarua County Police Commander.
The commission stated that The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating allegations of bribery and abuse of office against S/No 235776 Chief Inspector Walter Nyabera Obegi, the Officer Commanding Station at Kinangop Police Station (Engineer Town)
On August 14, police chiefs were asked to present Obegi before the commission's Central Regional Offices in Nyeri.
The Kinagop OCS and his junior, Police Constable Donald Obare Onyango, were arrested. Obegi escaped from EACC officers who were hunting him for requesting a Ksh.100,000 bribe from a local merchant in Engineer Town, Nyandarua County.

Even though the OCS fled and went into hiding, the EACC detained Onyango, who had accepted Ksh.60,000 from the complainant on behalf of the OCS, which was part of the Ksh.100,000 bribe.
EACC established that Obegi authorized Onyango to collect the money on his behalf and that the OCS had previously received a Ksh.30,000 deposit from the trader.
The officer was arrested and sent to the Njambini police station, where he spent the night awaiting processing and subsequent punishment. This was a condition for granting the trader "business protection" and the ability to run his businesses in town "smoothly" and "uninterruptedly."
