Interior Cabinet Secretary(CS) Kithure Kindiki has directed police officers to arrest liquor store operators around schools across the country.

Kindiki said that the government prioritizes the protection of children from harmful practices and the national security agencies will use all the available resources to apprehend unscrupulous traders recruiting children into drugs and alcohol.

“All National Government Administration officers must be alert and ensure that no one lures our boys and girls into drugs and alcohol. We must protect our children from such criminals who want to destroy a generation.”

Speaking on Friday in an address to parents, teachers and students at St. Germaine Gatanga Girls High School in Gatanga Constituency, Murang'a County, Kindiki stated that such traders trying to destroy a generation are similar to terrorists, bandits and armed criminals.

“We’re seeing many of our young people, whom we’re depending on to take over the responsibilities of running this country and being parents, being lured into drug addiction and alcohol abuse,” said Kindiki.

“People who are involved in selling alcohol and drugs to our children and young people must know they’re the greatest enemies of Kenya. My colleagues in the ministry have already been instructed to fight alcoholism and drugs, and make sure that especially our schools and learning institutions are secure from those who want to profit by destroying our young people.”
