Ms Teresiah Wanjiru, a woman allegedly detained during a raid on a bhang den in Nairobi by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), claims that the police are blaming her for her detention.

On August 15, 2023, Ms Wanjiru and three other people, Sheila Withers, Hillary Jumba, and Eugene Jumba, were all taken into custody.

According to the police, the raid netted them Sh13 million.

Today, August 21, 2023, they are anticipated to appear before the Kahawa Law Courts.

They are expected to answer to charges of having 26 bags of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana) and four cartons of rolling materials.

They will likely respond to allegations that they had four cartons of rolling supplies and 26 packages of Cannabis Sativa (marijuana) in their hands.

According to Nairobi News, her attorney, Mr Brian Khisa, plans to obtain his client's short-term parole.

Our primary goal today is to ensure her release. After that, Mr Khisa continued, "we will sue the DCI for wrongful arrest, sharing her image, and equating the family with one that functions like a mafia."

According to Ms Wanjiru, she was detained in a case of mistaken identity, and the police were aware of their actions.

"One police officer arrested me and forced me to seat next to where the bhang was. This is even after I showed him that all I was doing was running a hotel," Ms Wanjiru said yesterday during an interview at the Muthaiga Police Station.

Since her incarceration, her neighbours and family members have argued that she is innocent and that Nancy Indoverie Kizungu, also known as "Mathe," is the actual supplier of the bhang.

Ms Wanjiru further disclosed that Ms Kizungu recently called her and threatened her over the phone using a police officer at the station.

This occurred when the DCI announced the start of a manhunt for Ms. Kizungu, who is alleged to be well-connected and to have been acting with considerable impunity.

According to reports, Ms. Kizungu had a strong influence that allowed her to continue operating her business unhindered by the authorities. She even employed informants who alert her if the police are nearby.

She had significant influence over the transfers of some police officers, particularly those working at Parklands, Central, Ngara, and Kamukunji Police Stations.

Notably, Ms. Kizungu and her accomplices were detained in June 2022 and brought before the Kahawa Law Courts where she was sentenced to pay a fine of Sh525,000 before being let go. She carried on with her business unabated despite this.
