A suspected thief was yesterday stoned to death by a mob at Lolwe estate near Hekima school as two of his accomplices escaped on foot.

The three, armed with crude weapons, were on a motorbike, waylaid another rider with his pillion passenger and attacked them.

During the 6 a.m. event, another rider who was nearby sounded the alarm, causing nearby residents to rush to their aid.

Three suspects attempted to flee, but their brand-new motorbike crashed and ended up in a ditch; two others fled the crowd on foot.

The cornered one was beaten to death before his body was set ablaze alongside the motorbike.

The rider and his pillion passenger who were attacked suffered cut wounds and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
